What's New at WISE Online High School
DODEA Contract
In the spring of 2004, NESI was awarded a pilot program
contract from the DODEA (Department of Defense Education
Activity) to provide online summer high school
courses. In the winter of 2005, NESI was awarded a follow-on
3 year contract to extend the program. DODEA students are
dependents of US military personnel living on bases around
the world. Each summer hundreds of DODEA students complete
WISE online courses from their personal computers in locations
in the following countries:
North America: United States
Europe: United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain,
Belgium, Netherlands
Asia : Turkey , Korea, Japan, Guam

Accreditation
CITA
During the spring of 2006, WISE completed
a lengthy and thorough review of all aspects of it curriculum,
standards, operations, and personnel by CITA
– the Commission on International and Trans-Regional
Accreditation. In conjunction with the review by CITA, WISE
was reviewed for regional accreditation by SACS, the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools.
To receive CITA/SACS accreditation, WISE was required to
meet rigorous established standards for online education
including a clear educational mission, rigorously defined
academic curricula, and professionally sanctioned methods
and materials. In May 2006, we received CITA’s official
seal of accreditation for the WISE online high school diploma
program. There is no higher accreditation available
for a diploma-granting high school program.
CITA
is the most rapidly growing educational accreditation agency
in the world. Widely recognized by educators and accepted
as the leader in advancing quality school improvement, CITA
is affiliated with more than 32,000 schools, 20 million
students, and one million teachers worldwide.
SACS
SACS
(The Southern Association Council on Accreditation and School
Improvement) is the regional accreditation agency for school
operations in the southern states. Our Richard Milburn High
School division is based in Virginia, within the SACS territory.
SACS works under the auspices of CITA.
Advanced Placement Courses
WISE has formed a partnership with APEX
Learning of Seattle, WA, and will be offering a full
suite of Advanced Placement (AP) level courses from APEX.
We believe there is no better provider of high level courses.
The Apex Learning® Academic Curriculum provides standards-based
courses in math, science, English, social studies, world
languages, electives, and Advanced Placement* for grades
6 through 12. With the Apex Learning Academic Curriculum,
schools are able to take advantage of a range of online
learning approaches to address critical education challenges
and raise achievement for all students — from those
who are not succeeding in traditional programs to students
capable of accelerating their learning.
WISE Curriculum and Program
Expansion
WISE offers online courses to students who need to make up
credits and to supplement or get ahead in their current
program. We offer both regular school-term courses and summer
school courses. Beginning this fall, WISE will add courses
in fine arts, foreign languages, and health and physical
education to further expand our high school diploma program.
This program enhancement will enable students to take their
entire high school diploma program online with WISE.
Whether your individual course needs are for credit recovery,
course remediation, advanced learning , accelerated learning,
or total flexibility in course scheduling, we think you
should CONNECT with WISE.
