WISE - DODEA Parent Information
Parent Involvement
Parent involvement and awareness play a very
important role in online learning. The WISE class design and
instructional strategy create an optimum opportunity for parents
to stay involved in their child's learning. Course materials,
class projects, grades, and even assignment due dates are posted
on the Blackboard Learning System
and are easily accessible to parents and guardians. This easy
access to Blackboard allows parents to participate fully
in the online class environment. If necessary, teachers can
create discussion boards to allow parents to interact
with one another or use the Virtual Online Classroom
to host web-based parent conferences.
Course Materials and Class Projects
WISE classes provide parents with a snapshot of the kinds of
assignments, class projects, and work requirements expected
of students. Parents can check the "Drop
Box" to confirm whether homework has been submitted
or returned.
Hints for Parents
The following hints can be used as a guide on how parents
can best stay involved in their child's WISE classes:
- Be sure to complete the WISE Orientation for a better
understanding on how to navigate and use Blackboard.
- Request password access to view student work, assignments,
and progress.
- Provide the teacher with an email address and telephone number
where you can be reached on a daily basis. If you do not
have an email address, share the one being used by your child.
- Review class materials and assignment due dates to become
acquainted with teacher expectations and class requirements.
- Make sure you are aware of examination dates and grading
policies.
- Make it a point to inquire about mid-term grades and overall
course status.
You are very much a part of your child's successful completion
of our online courses.
If at any time throughout the term you have questions, first
email the teacher and ask for answers. If you continue to
have questions, please contact WISE@rmhs.org
for guidance and counseling assistance.
