Supplemental Educational Services

Supplemental Educational Services (SES), a major element of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB), represents a significant opportunity for NESI to contribute to the academic growth and personal development of students who struggle to achieve success at schools that have been identified as needing improving according to NCLB standards.

During the past few years, NESI has initiated several SES programs in a number of locations across the country; last year more than 2,000 students benefited from our tutoring program. We are proud of the high-quality instruction we provide and are confident that we will continue to positively impact the lives of our students. We are committed to hiring qualified teachers and tutors, maintaining low teacher-to-student ratios, and delivering a math and reading curriculum aligned with state and district standards.

NESI recognizes the need for after-school tutoring and takes the responsibility of helping students improve their core academic skills seriously. We are privileged to be an approved SES provider and look forward to many years serving the countless children who need additional support to realize their academic and life dreams.

Results

NESI introduced SES services to the Milwaukee area in 2004 and demonstrated outstanding success in its first-year pilot program.

• 98% of the students who stayed in the program improved.

• Students who completed the program showed grade level gains in achievement in reading and math based on pre- and post- tutoring standardized tests.

• These gains were achieved over a modest number of tutoring hours - 26 - which underscores the value of the NESI 1 to 5 teacher to student ratio.

And the parent satisfaction survey confirmed how good a job we did.

• 100% of the parents responded to our survey.

• 96% felt their child's academic achievement improved through the program.

• 100% would recommend NESI to other parents.

NESI Kids Pledge

NESI: WE TAKE TUTORING BEYOND TUTORING.

We work with students one-on-one to improve academic skills and build confidence, self esteem, and academic goals. Our teachers are both tutors and academic role models for NESI students.

At the beginning of the semester, each student memorizes the NESI KIDS PLEDGE as a personal affirmation of his/her commitment to our program and to personal success.

On the first day of tutoring class, each child receives an "I'm a NESI Kid!" t-shirt featuring our bold and colorful dragon over our name. NESI Kids take pride in being part of the NESI after-school program.
