A Message from the President
In February 2008 NonPublic Educational Services, Inc. Will be 30 years old. As I reflect on the past 30 years, I am struck by the words I wrote in November 1987, which remain relevant today:
Nearly 10 years ago, I had a dream to begin a very special company that would deliver educational services to students who did not attend public schools. Thus, the odd name NonPublic Educational Services, Inc., came about. This company would try to help and educate private school, Navy, Army, Marine and Air Force enlisted students, adults in prison, school drop outs, and any other students who needed help in a special kind of way. [And now, 20 years later this description remains what NESI is all about.] Dr. Kenneth Underwood helped me to make the dream a reality. Ken was at my side at the very beginning in February 1978.
We were very lucky. Ken and I won the Virginia NCIA By-Pass contract in March 1979. [This is now the Virginia Title I By-Pass and NESI has won every subsequent competition of this contract and will soon begin our 29th year of service.] We hustled; we hired; we trained; we made mistakes. We learned very fast! Since then, we have been fortunate to obtain contracts throughout the country for the special services NESI has to offer.
We have grown from a company of two people with a dream, to a 'family' including our affiliate Richard Milburn High School for Adults, of over 200 employees located all over the US. [NESI and Richard Milburn Schools, have over 700 employees and serve the educational needs of 14,000 students annually in the US and worldwide.] Its not easy trying to put it all together, spread from Massachusetts to Florida, from Virginia to Hawaii. It takes a special management team to do this. [In 2008 those words are still true. I can not imagine a finer group of managers with the passion and dedication to the educational needs of our students. Brief summaries of our Management team can be found at the top of the page.]
In 1985, NESI was selected as one of the fastest growing private companies in the US by Inc, Magazine. I look back at the first ten years as the beginning. Now, we are ready to move on to new challenges.
We are now 20 years further along in providing special educational services. We have over 50 active Federal, State, and local educational services contracts. We provide Title I Education Services, Secondary Educational Services, Management Services for Richard Milburn Academy (non-profit), High School Completion and Augmentation Services, Department of Defense High School Summer School Services, Military Occupational Specialty Training and US Army Forces Command Foreign Language Training.
I thought long and hard about how I wanted to close my message. There are many people I should thank and they know I do. But when I read my words from 1987, I thought these truly capture my vision for NESI:
Wherever there is a child or an adult in need of special educational services, there is a need for NESI. Help me to help them. Give me your best. I will give you my best.

Robert H. Crosby,
President
